Welcome to

THE NEXT MEMBERSHIP MEETING

September 2023

Please mark your calendars for MCHS Members and their guests to attend the September Membership Meeting on September 17 at 2pm at the Historic Webster Farmhouse located at 3166 Hampshire Pike, Cross Bridges.

Around 1810, Jonathan Webster, a veteran of the American Revolution, built the first brick house west of the Bigby Creek. The house is built in an unadorned Federal style, with the brick being made and fired on site. Webster is known as the person who first brought and bred mules in Maury County, which through his actions eventually made Maury County the “Mule Capital” of the nation. He also constructed a water-powered saw and grist mill on the creek nearby.

Moe Webster will address the gathering at 2:30 and share the history of the house, followed by a self-guided tour.
